The Uber Claw story

At some point in 2020 amid everything else that was happening, I dropped a set of channel locks in the bilge of my tugboat. I had a shitty claw that I used periodically to get things that were just out of reach. Half the time it worked and half the time it made me want to beat my head against a wall.

Well this time the shitty claw failed me. The rubber coated handles combined with the oil and water in the bilge made the channel locks impossible to grab. My only set of channel locks were stuck just out of reach. I had to pull up a deck plate and contort myself around piping and structural members to get them back. The entire time thinking “why won’t someone make a grabber that’s worth a fuck?”

After fixating on the concept for a while, sketches were made, followed by shitty prototypes and eventually slightly better prototypes. Finally after a few iterations a god damn fantastic working model came to be. About two years of tinkering between work and other jobs and something you have always wanted is now for sale. Go buy one here and support my shop. More tools are in the works.
